How is our approach different?

Tutoring at Bridging the Gap has two components to it.

Literacy

Our literacy approach is based on the IMSLE programme, which focuses on building strong literacy foundations through a VAK (Visual, Auditory, and Kinaesthetic) approach to learning. This method engages learners by incorporating seeing, hearing, and hands-on experiences to support understanding and retention.

IMSLE (Institute of Multi-Sensory Structured Language Education) was developed by Jodi Clements and is grounded in extensive research and evidence based practice. Jodi is a respected leader in the field of structured literacy and serves on several professional boards, including the Australian Dyslexia Association and the International Dyslexia Association.

As trained IMSLE educators, we provide Tier 3 one-to-one instruction tailored to individual learning needs. Our goal is to deliver targeted, intensive support that helps students develop essential literacy skills and achieve academic success.

Mathematics:

Our mathematics programme is founded on the principles of the Structured Maths Approach, developed by Jordan Priestley, an experienced New Zealand educator. This evidence-informed approach provides a clear, structured scope and sequence that supports students in developing strong mathematical knowledge, understanding, and confidence. The programme is specifically aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum and ensures that key mathematical concepts are taught in a logical, cumulative order, with each new skill building on prior learning.

Structured Maths emphasises explicit teaching, strong number knowledge, procedural fluency, and deep conceptual understanding. By breaking learning into manageable steps and providing consistent opportunities for practice and application, students are able to develop confidence in mathematics while strengthening their problem-solving and reasoning skills.

At Bridging the Gap, we use this structured approach to support students who may be experiencing difficulties in mathematics, as well as those who would benefit from additional guidance to achieve their full potential. Through targeted, individualised instruction, we help learners build strong mathematical foundations and experience success in their learning journey.

Pricing and hours

We pride ourselves on providing a personalised, one-to-one teaching approach that enables every child to receive the individual attention and support they need to achieve success. By tailoring lessons to each learner’s strengths and areas of need, we can target specific goals and maximise progress.

We are committed to keeping our services accessible and affordable for families. While many tutoring providers charge $100 or more per session for group-based instruction, we offer a full hour of individualised one-to-one learning for just $80.

All learning materials are included, including stationery and personalised sound packs where applicable. For families choosing remote learning, these resources will be shipped directly to you at no additional cost, ensuring your child has everything they need to fully engage in their learning.

We work with children ages 4-18
